Abstract
Phytotherapy is a strategic practice for health actions, which broadens the therapeutic possibilities and contributes for an integral attention to the users of the Unified Health System (SUS). This article presents a descriptive study of the mapping of herbal medicines and medicinal plants offered in municipal pharmacies of Rio Grande do Sul (RS), with the use of a semi-structured form which was applied to the municipalities of the state. It was verified that 37% of the municipalities that filled out the form to dispense herbal medicines to the population with predominance of industrialized medicines, since only three municipalities manipulate herbal medicines. In addition, six municipalities offer medicinal tea and seventeen have vegetal garden of medicinal plants, mainly for educational use of fresh plants and distribution of vegetable species and/or small plants to users. Almost all of them, 93% of those interviewed, it is considered Phytotherapy to be important, which shows the need for further structuring of this therapeutic approach within the Unified Health System.
